2005 Explorer reverse

So just bought a 05 explorer, auto, 4.6, 4x4. It didnt go into reverse the other day and I gave ir gas and it finally did. Today it did it again and I gave a lil gas and it clunked into gear. Ive read but am getting mixed responses on if its valve body or internal. Went into drive fine but ever since we bought it its shifted a lil hard on 2-3. Thoughts? Its going back to dealer tomorrow to get looked at but I want to be able to tell them what I think. Thanks

Also the problem is intermittent as it has gone into since then fine.

Also the problem is intermittent as it has gone into since then fine.

2-3 shifting could be servos, which would be unrelated. It could be the reverse pump, solenoid block, or the valvebody.
