So I have a vibration at 45mph, suspected drivetrain issue, purchased a brand new complete propellor shaft (both halves with the center support bearing) on eBay. Installed it today, but on the test drive didn’t even get out of the driveway before rattle and grind noise. Isolated it to the front prop bearing assembly (the one with the 6 large ball bearings inside) but we never disturbed that one on the new shaft. Everything bolted up nicely but there’s way too much play in it for it to be correct. I am suspecting that whoever installed it at the manufacturer screwed it up given the fact that we didn’t take any of it apart. Any chance that dropping the rear end of that shaft too low during install (like down to the ground under the car) could have messed up those ball bearings? I assumed that since everything was sealed inside the boot that it wouldn’t be possible to mess it up. Any thoughts or others with this part of the driveline?
