I purchased this car over 5 months ago, had leased all my life , but due to the downturn in the economy had to get an used car. Great car to drive but it happened twice and today was the worse, My defrost does not work properly , windshield gets icy and can't see the road really good, Had to drive my son back from his jobs and we were in very dire situation. I'd like to get an opinion, whether go to a dealer or a regular mechanic to help me with, this .
What can i do? any suggestions..

Does it have heat and air blow out of defroster?

welcome

welcome to the site, start with the easy things first with heat.Make sure the overflow is up to level. When the truck is cold take the radiator cap off and check the radiator level to see if it's low.

Also feel the hose after the thermostate to see if it's warm when truck's running.

It blows out air , but not as hot as it supposed to .. Took it to the shop and they guy said must replace thermostat and also change cabin filter.

I may go to be safe to the dealer and have it check all over and see what is happening.
Thanks for the reply.

Pretty sure the 3rd gen doesn't have a cabin air filter.

Im with you on that. I have never replaced a cabin filter on those vehicles ever. When was the last time you got your radiator fluid changed? I would do what tony said and check the radiator fluid and see if its low. Low coolant would keep fluid away from the heater core.

If you do go get the thermostat changed have the guy flush the whole system out and run some water through the heater core to get all the sediments out. Give us an update with what the dealership thinks if you get a second opinion.
