My low range 4x4 button doesn't engage all of the time. It hadn't worked for quite a while but the other day if I pushed the button nothing lit up, but when I shifted into gear it did. Thereafter for a few days when I tried it worked. Then one day I pushed the button the light blinked like normal and then after 2 or 3 blinks it quit again and I have tried it several times since to no avail.
I don't/haven't used it really but would like for it to work just in case I need it.

Added: 2006 XLT 4x4 V-8 Auto 50,000 miles. Can anyone tell me what is the problem so that I can correct it without paying the dealer? Does it have a switch/servo/solenoid on transfer case that is causing the problem?
I don't/haven't used it really but would like for it to work just in case I need it.
