2006 ford explorer high idle in drive and reverse

Hey all. I am new here and was hoping ya all could help me out. I have a 2006 ford explorer EB V8. When in drive or reverse it idles really high (1300 to 1500rpm) and wants to take off. It takes everything I have on the brake pedal just to keep it in place. I've since started dropping it into neutral to elevate having to depress the brake so hard. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking the TPS or IACV but I would rather be sure before spending the money.

I recommend the first thing you do is check for any trouble codes that might be tripped. If you have them then it will point you in the right direction to look for problems. Reporting on what codes are read and posting them here will help us give you better advice. Instead of just making assumptions and starting you on a wild goose chase rather than diagnosing the actual problem.

The codes you listed are wide ranging and seem to possibly involve wiring system faults. Early model 4th gen Explorers/Mountaineers are known to have issues with insulation deteriorating on the wiring harness lines. This can cause shorts and erratic problems that are frustrating to diagnose. It might be worth inspecting the wiring where it is exposed and out of the harness wrap for missing insulation.
