2006 Ford Explorer trans problem

My Ford was exhibiting abrupt shifting problems in 3rd & 4th gears both upshifting and downshifting. The ECM and TCM had apparently learned some bad habits. I disconnected the battery per the maintenance and service manual and followed the directions regarding Idling for 1 minute in Park and idling for 1 minute in Park with the A/C on. Took it for a 10 mile ride and have noticed and improvement. Smoother shifting. The manual advises it will take a while for ECM & TCM to RE-LEARN but doesn't say how long. All I can say for now is so far........so good.

Funny when something goes a-tweek with a PC or Tablet the first thing people do is REBOOT!

But it is always the last thing they think of with a COMPUTER CONTROLLED ENGINE.

Comment not directed at you personally. Just an observation.

Great info for those with this trans hard shift issue.

Probably comes up after towing or hard highway speed hill climbs.
