- 2006 Explorer Limited V6
Greetings! My name is Brian, and I have been looking through this forum for the last week trying to troubleshoot an issue I am having with an Explorer I recently purchased without much luck.
I have an 06 Limited V6 2WD with the 3.55 rear gear and 76K miles.
On idle, the engine has a steady miss and under load and cruise conditions the miss still exists and it is greatly affecting the fuel economy.
After I purchased it, I had the fuel injection system flushed at my local dealership to see if this would remedy the solution, however afterwords the situation still remained.
I then purchased a new coil pack(Screamin' Demon), plug wires (Bosch 8mm), Autolite Double Platinum plugs (Gapped to .062), K&N Air filter, and a Motocraft Fuel filter. After performing this work, the problem still exists.
The Motocraft Platinum plugs(AGSF 24PGM) that were there looked normal for cylinders 1-3, but on cylinders 4-6 the center electrode was more rounded and there was a white ash residue on the ground indicating that it might have been running a bit lean.
I hooked my laptop up to the Explorer and monitored the O2 voltages for both banks, and bank 2 stayed between .675V and .745V while bank 1 varied between .008V and .721V. (I use ProScan software to monitor the engine and varied the RPMs during the test).
I also disconnected the battery and let it sit overnight to reset the PCM and the problem still exists after driving it around for 40 miles.
I am assuming that maybe the O2 sensor may be causing my issue but before I drop $95 for FORD to tell me that or $80 to buy a new O2 sensor I wanted to get some other opinions.
Thanks!
Brian
