just got this explorer it seems to have an unuasual issue that may or may not be common.

when i put the exp in drive or reverse from park. there isn't much movement at all. it just stay still until you give it gas. and you have to give it a decent push of gas to get it going. ... this doesn't seem normal to me. .... it seems like there should be a smoother transition from park to drive (or reverse). most cars when you put the car id drive or reverse and let of the brake the car will start moving a little. ... this one doesnt. ... the engine seems to be running fine, the car starts right up, and the idle seems to be at a normal rpm. but just wish it would be smoother here. it almost jolts you when you have to get on the gas to get it going.

does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

also another annoying thing is the guage on the dash that shows Drive , reverse, nuetral, etc. doesn't line up right with the finger (or what ever its called LOL)

thank you

sounds like a transmission problem is starting. i would at very least recommend changing the filter and fluid in the tranny. look for any metal debris, sometimes just changing the fluid can help a problem like this as it did for me.

if the truck is kinda stumbling, perhaps it is in need of a tune up and i would change the plugs and wires. make sure the plugs are gapped correctly.

for the positions not lining up, you can adjust the linkage that is attached to the transmission. might be easier with a friends help.

thanks for you input guys.

aprox 110k miles.

transmission sounds about right. we will have my mechanic take a look at it soon. i will let him know what you guys said.

tranny, torque converter probably. check up with that.

to clarify, you think it may be the Transmission -or- the Torque Converter?

i will definitely bring that up to the mechanic.
