- 2006 Mercury Mountaineer
I own a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer Premier and until a few months ago had no problems. A few months ago I noticed noise coming from the front end. Prior to this Mountaineer I own two other mountaineer's so I knew that it was probably the ball joints. I took it to the mechanic and the following parts were replace for a hefty price of almost 800 dollars... Both lower ball joints, right inner tire rod, the sway bar bushings and an alignment. My problem is that my mountaineer ride was very smooth since the day I got it. Even with the front end problem it was a smooth ride until the repairs. Now I can feel every crack, small rock or bump on the road. It's pretty bad. Another issue is while parking or making a u-turn. The whole front end shakes from side to side and it feels like the front wheels are going to snap at any moment. This car never did that before. I took it back to the mechanic and I was told that all cars do that while making a tight turn. I know that cars do that, but I only experience that before if there was snow or sand on the road and even then It was never that bad. In regards to the extremely bumpy ride, the mechanic told me that nothing they did could cause that. I don't get it. I had them check my shocks and was told that they were ok... Can someone tell me what it could be. My mountaineer has 69,000 miles and I really hate to trade it. Please help and Thanks in advance...
