2006 Mountioneer EGR valve

I have been getting two codes p0108 and p0408. I know both have to do with the EGR valve, but would like to know how to test before investing 110 buck and still have the same problem. I have heard the codes could be coming from a crack or hole in the exhaust system. Anything to that.

Haven't heard that one before, but a vacuum leak on the line going to the EGR valve can cause it to not function properly.
