ive an 06 explorer limited and the third row electric seat is stuck in the halfway position. When I push the switch I hear the motor running but the jackscrew doesn't turn?!

I have a similar problem with my '02. The drivers seat does that. I took it to Ford and they told me the seat frame is cracked. It's not legal for them to weld it so I just got it into the best position. You may have the same problem..

Seat motor is toast. Very common problem although haven't seen many posts the last year or so. Do a search for "3rd row seat motor."
Lots of pics, r&r details and part #'s.

And welcome to the site.

This is a recurrent problem with the fourth generation. Depending on how often you think you will need to lower/raise the 3rd row will dictate which way to go with the fix.

I do not recommend to replace the motor with an OEM part, this design is faulty and it will break again.

Personnaly I use the 3rd row seats approx once per month. I will go with a retrofit of the broken motor/gear to a manual operation.

@Mart1n, I completely agree with your earlier statement. It is not advisable to replace the motor with an OEM part; I agree the design is faulty and it will break again. One of the flaws in design is the worm-gear driven plastic sprocket, which is not replaceable w/o removing entire motor-gear-bracket assembly.

I was also looking at the various manual methods; it looked like one would either requiring building a different type, lever-operated seat bracket or using something to turn the OEM shaft. I decided to look for a motor to turn the OEM Acme-thread shaft with a sturdier and more readily replaceable motor. The youTube video below shows the solution using a motor sold in numerous places incl. eBay and Amazon. There may be better motor solutions and if these motors go maybe another better motor will be known.
