I have a brand new 4X2 Ranger, 4 cyl, 5 speed, 4:10 gears. My tires are BFG Long trails about 1" taller than stock. I'm unable to take alot of trails becouse my first gear is too tall. I cannot drive slow without lugging the engine. I need a granny gear or an underdrive. Is their any fix for this? I want to leave the 4:10's in as the truck drives well at other speeds. I just need to be able to go slower in first. Thanks

nope you need a steeper gear ratio like 4.56's or 5.13's.

Yeah, if it was a 4x4 then you could use the low range in the t-case but your options are regear as there are no tranny options that I have ever heard of for the new Rangers. Sorry for the bad new.

talk to 4xfab about the stubler may help you be able to have them make an adapter to the 2x4 tranny. search for stubler in the forums and then contact them. I will make it like you have a transfer case.

put on smaller tires

There's a reason people don't take 2wds rock-crawling. They're not geared for it. 2WD works great at high speed in the sand or dirt, but not slow trails as you discovered.

Three possible solutions as I see it: Buy an automatic, regear and sacrafice your fuel economy the other non-trail 98% of the driving, or buy a 4x4 with a selectable transfer case. Your current truck can't be easily or cheaply modified to do what you want it to.
