Hello, I am new to this forum please help. Sounds like 4wd auto is engaged. Front right noise when accelerating from stop through first few gears. Sounds just like when I have it in 4x4 and the dash light shows 4x4. Happened after a tire change of the front right tire only due to tire thread loosening and wabbling for a few days (wabble disappeared). I since put the back tires on front, bought another new tire, and put new tires on rear. Still same. The rear tires were in great shape. Feels like rougher shifting as well. PLEASE HELP I'm older with very limited income and not sure I can trust "Discount Tire" or repair shops.

You need to have 4 brand new tires of the same brand, size, and wear on the vehicle. You cannot mismatch tires on a 4WD vehicle; you will blow up the transfer case if you do that for long. That is why you hear the noise you do, the vehicle is trying to compensate for what it thinks is a slipping wheel. In actuality, it is one tire that is slightly more worn than another.

Thank you all for the insight. I am heading to tire store to get 2 more new tires to exactly match the other 2 new ones. I will then have 4 exact same new tires. I will follow up this evening and let you know how it went. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I love this forum and will be an avid user from now on.

WOW. It worked. 4 new tires all the same and that fixed it. No more noise or being stuck in 4wd auto. Power is back and I saved the transfer case. All segments of 4x4 and 4x4 low work great. You guys are lifesavers. THANK YOU FOR THE.HELP.. Love this forum.

If these trucks ever seem stuck in 4WD engaged (automatically), try pushing the 4WD High button, immediately followed by the Auto button. Works on mine every time.
