Hey all.

I just got a new to me 2008 explorer. I want to remove the door and trunk emblems but I am worried that there would be holes behind them. Has anyone done this and if so did you encounter holes, or are they simply glorified stickers. Also, if this does work, what is the best way to remove them?

Removing those emblems can be very easy if you have the right tools. I work at a detail shop so I have done this type of thing a time or 2. A heat gun makes this project very easy. If you have a heat gun, simply heat the letters which will loosen up the adhesive (they are glorified stickers). To remove the adhesive left over you can power wash it off or put paint thinner on a rag and rub it off. Could take quite awhile or another way is to get a razor blade and very carefully scrape it off. Once all of the adhesive is off, buffing those spots will make it look as if nothing was ever there. Without buffing the area where the decal was I don't know how to get rid of the faint emblem marks on the paint. I hope this helps if you haven't already done this. Good Luck

WD-40 is very effective at removing the adhesive as well but you run less of a risk damaging the paint with it as you would with paint thinner.

Just remember to thoughtly was and then wax and buff the area after your remove them. Under the batges has never been waxed on your car and will be visable for a while after removing them.

Thanks for the helpful information. Just got back from a long road trip so I will begin the process this weekend. Plan to take before and after pics. Hopefully all goes according to plan lol

Just to chime in, I removed the V8 emblems on the fenders of my car with dental floss. It worked great
