2010 adrenalin auto awd

i recently purchased a 2010 adrenalin and it has 2 options for the awd system either AUTO or LOCK which means i cannot drive in just 2wd. I realize in auto mode it only kicks in when the rear tires slip but my question is has anyone figured out how to bypass or disable the auto function so i can have just 2wd? its my understanding that 2010 model is the only one that is auto all the time??? any input would be appreciated.

do the 09 and older adrenalains have the 2wd option? i know 2010 is the only year that thye were awd but on the older ones was a dealer option or something u can change via button or in the center screen?
