About a year and a half ago, the service engine soon symbol came on for my 2010 explorer. I took it to the dealer and they diagnosed it as the outboard O2 sensor for which they had to order one. On my way home, I stopped and filled the vehicle up with gas, about a half tank. When I restarted the vehicle to go home, the light did not come back on. I drove it for a few days and still nothing. I called the dealer and explained this to them and cancelled my appointment to have the sensor changed.
Now, a year and a half later, the same thing has happened. The light came on, the dealer diagnosed it as the outboard O2 sensor. It stayed on until a couple days later when I filled it up with gas. Light has gone out and not come back on yet. Time will tell.
Any ideas why filling the vehicle with gas causes the light to go out and not come back on for a long period of time?
