2010 Ford Explorer XLT
Hi all,
I have a 2010 Explorer XLT. Just the other day, I noticed a clicking sound when I turn the Hot/Cool switch to the cool side. As soon as I turn it towards cool I hear a clicking sound from under the dash on the driver side.

Any ideas what this is and is it something I can fix? if not what am I looking at at getting it fixed.

Thanks in advance.

Blend door actuator. Do a search on this forum - it's a common problem. The actuator has a plastic gear which ultimately looses teeth giving you this problem. If you like lying on your back working in cramped conditions then the repair is easy.

Thanks so much! I had thought it sounded like a broken gear thing going on. I work at Boeing so am pretty good mechanically and at uncomfortable conditions :). I imagine the hardest part
is probably getting to the darn thing? thats quite a console that needs to be removed or a couple panels first removed? I will do a search. Does anyone have any instructions on how to do the repair and what is cost of the part? or where is the best place to purchase the part? thanks again...!!!

FYI - the console itself does not have to be removed. It is under the dash.

thanks for the info. In the posts though I'm only seeing some instructions and pictures. Anyone have a youtube video or anything with more details?

You can do a search on Youtube. Tons of videos there that will show how-to. Be sure to search for your specific vehicle though.

Just replaced this a few weeks ago. PITA to get the top screw. Installed the new one with only 2 screws.

EF FTW. Mine was clicking for a long time and now I don't always get heat. Wala, here's the solution.
