2010 Ford Explorer 4.0
I just bought a new to me 2010 Explorer. It has 62,000 on it. The original owner changed the engine oil every 2,000 miles but I cant find if he changed the transmission fluid. Will it hurt anything to change it now. The transmission shifts and runs fine.

Actually, the prudent service interval for transmissions is every 60k miles and not Ford's ridiculous 150k mile service interval. With only 62k miles on the vehicle there should be no issues changing the fluid. My preferred method for transmission service is to do a pan drop, replace the filter and refill. Maybe have them adjust the bands too, if necessary.

Would it be better to have the ford dealership do this or have a transmission shop do it?

Yes change it. You can do it yourself if you are handy with cars but any descent auto shop can do it. No matter where it is done, I would make sure they use only Motorcraft Mercon V fluid.
