Good evening,
I have tried to search the forum but have not come up with specifics for this model that has been useful. Today, while leaving the store, the Liftgate/Glass Ajar message came up on the dash and I couldn't get it to clear - both the door and glass were closed, tried opening/closing a few times, etc. The puddle lights also would not shut off. I thought that if you left it for a couple of minutes, they would go out; since I didn't want a dead battery tomorrow I disconnected the battery cables. First off, any advice as to the cause?? Also, if it is the sensors, how big of a pain is it to take off the rear cover (without breaking the clips) to get at the sensors? Last, anyone know exactly what they are called? I tried a few different phrases for it on the Ford parts site as well as some of the big box parts store and nothing comes up. Thanks for the help!

Hmm... not 100% but I know a similar issue happened to my wifes 99 Taurus and also happened to my old Sable. Every now and then a sensor will get tripped up and the interior lights wont ever go off even while driving. Sometime the latches get gunked up and I'll have to take a can of WD40 and spray it directly into the latching mechanism to get the dirt and grime out. Then I work the latch back and forth with a flat head screw driver. Lastly I'll wipe down what I can with a paper towel to get the excess WD40 and dirt out and take a can of white lithium grease and give the latch a few blasts of that. Open/close the door and work the latch back and forth some more to get the grease down in there real good. May take 1-2 applications for it to fully work, at least it did for me. Hope this helps!
