2011 Explorer Base FWD
Hi,

I Just have BB5Z-19G364-A installed on my 2011 Explorer Base model.

I noticed if I don't press lock button first, no matter how many times or how long I press remote start button ( 2 times required) , the car won't start.

However once I press lock button, then press remote start 2 times, it will start right away.

I also notice there is "Quite Start" option, however it doesn't seem to do anything, as my car never honks when it starts.

I am wondering if this is normal behaviour or anything wrong with my remote starter installation?

Pressing the lock button once before holding the remote start button is standard operating procedure on our 2011 Limited with factory remote start. I'd say what you're experiencing is normal there.

Can't add anything on a "quiet start" option, never heard of it.

Hope this helps.

Appreciate your help Lexrid!!

Remote Starting the Vehicle

Note: Each button press must be done within three seconds of each other. The vehicle will not remote start if this sequence is not followed and the horn will not chirp.
The label on your transmitter details the starting procedure. To remote start the vehicle:
1. Press the lock button to lock all the doors.
2. Press the remote start button twice. The exterior lamps will flash twice.
The horn will chirp if the system fails to start (unless quiet start is on). Quiet start will run the blower fan at a slower speed to reduce noise. It can be switched on or off. Refer to the Information Displays chapter.

That's straight out of a 2013 manual... I'm guessing yours works the same way.

The hitting lock first is pretty standard w/ every remote start system (factory), my wife's Camaro is the same way. The quiet start should not honk, and should start w/ the fans at reduced speed. Try turning it off in the settings, and then back on. I found with our 2011 sometimes the setting shown wasn't what was actually set (for instance the cross traffic alert said on, but wasn't until I turned it off and then back on).

thanks guys, the reason I ask about quiet start, is because my 2008 fusion ( ford remote starter) always honk each time I use remote start
