My wife just got our explorer serviced. 40,000 miles. They did a wheel alignment due to some warranty item in the front end but said they could not complete it because there are some bushings in the rear suspension that are too wore out? They want $2500 for the repair. The tires look to be wearing even and there is nothing noticeable when driving. I am
Having trouble trying to find a drawing of the rear parts. I have to call and get more details but was wondering if this is common and how difficult of a repair.
Thanks.

$2,500 for bushings?? lol.. Get them to give you the estimate with part numbers and post them.

Searching Ford parts, there are rear suspension control arm bushings which are $43-$46 each

There is also a "Suspension Knuckle Bushing Repair Kit" for $475 each side. I'm assuming this kit comes with the control arms, knuckles and bushings etc (if you needed the whole setup).

Need to get the estimate from them so we can see what exactly they are charging you.

Once you get that estimate, google "tousley ford parts" and look up the part numbers. They sell 10% above cost which is about 30% off retail and take it to an independent mechanic IMO.

$2500?! Sounds like a crock of $%#@ to me. Definitely get a list of parts they want to replace and let us know what they are.

2500. Man dealers..unreal. Again like everyone else said. Get oart list and buy online

Quote from dealer

Quote says -Replace both rear knuckles-1500$
-Replace both rear sway bar links as they may be disturbed. 170$
-labor 830$
-Wheel alignment 200$
Thanks to everyone who responded.

Great site! Thanks! I could not find the repair kit on their site? I see the knuckles are 313$ each which is great. Would you be able to give me the part # for the repair kit to compare to just the knuckle. Thanks again.

Wow, this is why I cringe when I hear people taking their cars to the dealer. They are trying to hose you! Take your Explorer to a competent & reputable NON-Dealer shop in your area. Use Google, ask people in your neighborhood, church, Angie's List, friends, etc. for who they use. There are actual reputable shops out there. Then go and get it looked at. If your rear tires are wearing correctly and your vehicle is not pulling then I'm 90% sure everything is fine back there. There is only so much you can align on the rear of a vehicle.

Oh, and what dealer is it you took your Exp to?

Hello everybody, I got the same issue, I took my 2013 explorer to the stealer, and was told they need to replace the whole knuckle assy both sides just cause ford doesn´t sell only bushings, and here in Canada, only parts are quoted at almost 2000$ C, I believe there´s a few companies that sell these bushings only, but for sure dont do it at the dealer, cause they´ll rip you off.

I had a similar issue and found the right bushings that fit. NAPA auto parts P/N 905-0531.See good instructions in this video. Good luck!
