Are you referring to the corrosion on the front lip of the hood? If so, you should be covered for that. List of Useful Threads - 2011 + Explorer TSB's & SSM's

I checked with the dealer about my 2016 PIU that I bought a few months ago. 58,000 miles. The dealer said it had no coverage for the hood...and when I called Ford...they agreed. While the TSB describes certain corrective actions....Ford isn't paying for it...says not warrantable on the TSB.

I've love to get the hood fixed....

There is no exclusion in that TSB as far as I can see. I'm guessing that neither the dealer nor Ford explained why it isn't covered. Other members have had their Explorers covered. Granted they weren't PIUs, but the TSB doesn't seem to differ as to the coverage. If it was mine, I'd insist on an explanation as to why it isn't covered. Just saying it's "not warrantable" won't cut it.

I work with this dealer, and when I spoke to the Service Manager...he looked up my VIN and said there was no warranty coverage for this on my vehicle.

The TSB shown in the other thread specifically says, "Warranty Satus: Information Only - Not Warrantable".

I too have read where others have had these repairs made where Ford covered it. I'd be glad to know the magic words or handshake needed to make this happen. Speaking to Ford directly got me no further.

EDIT: called Ford again. They tell me the vehicle is still covered by the 7/150,000 corrosion warranty. They say the dealer/body shop needs to call Ford to get it covered after they take pics, etc. Mine is blistered, but the paint is still on...I'll see if I can get any further tomorrow.

Called Ford again...5 years..it's up. No warranty for this. But..I should take it to the dealer to have the problem looked at...then the dealer should contact Ford with info on repair. Apparently, Ford may still cover this, but its not under warranty. The Representative I spoke to suggested that Ford had ways to do this.

Aluminum body panels are covered for 5 years, unlimited mileage on 2016+ Explorers. I guess if you are over the 5 years then you'll have to hope Ford will help.
Good luck and let us know if Ford is willing to help out.
