2012 Explorer Low-Beams

The oem HID's high beam is terrific. By far the best high beam I've ever used. It almost seems like the projector was designed around the high beams.

It's a bi-xenon, and the low beam performance of bi-xenon's is never as good as a dedicated low beam HID setup.

I still may buy a set of damaged headlights off of ebay in the future to take apart and see if I can retrofit a new projector into it.

How often do we use the high beams? Low beams are more important as I am sure most of us use them 99% of the time. How much does it cost to replace the bi-xenon bulbs?

Changing the bulb won't affect performance. Bulbs are expensive as they are a newer type. I've seen them around $200 a pair.

It's a simple change though, as they can be accessed from inside the engine compartment. Most other cars HID's require a lot more effort to access them.

Hi All

are the OEM HID Kit Bi Xenon?

because i will upgrade my normale Halogen Lamps with HID but I'm not sure shall I order a HID low beam kit or an Bi Xenon HID Kit, what are you thinking about that?

thanks

Cheers

Although I'm no expert on the subject, from what I've read, I believe the HID used by Ford is the Bi-Xenon. This means it is a single bulb and in Ford's case, it uses a shade to cover part of the bulb on low beam and the shade is retracted to produce high beam.
Do you currently have only a single halogen bulb that produces hi and lo beams or do you have one bulb for hi and one for lo? If you have just a single bulb, and replace it with an HID low beam kit, what are you going to do for high beam?

Hey Peter

I don't know because i will get the car in 1 week ;-)

so I think I will buy a low beam HID Kit...

the only problem is, I'm from Switzerland :-) aaaand when it's the wrong one i will keep it in the garbage :-))

I know the Limited has just the one bulb. I assume the other models also just have a single halogen bulb for hi and lo beam. If that is the case, I think you will lose your high beam if you put in a low beam HID kit.
Hopefully someone else can jump in here and advise.
