2012 XLT Keypad Question

At night I need the keypad back light on to punch in the correct code. When I touch the key pad to turn on the light the key pad enters that touch as an incorrect entry Is there a way to activate the lights that illuminate the key pad without pressing a random number?

All you should have to do is swipe it with your finger(s).
