Well I have driven the Explorer 10,000 miles. With all the bad reviews I have seen I was really skeptical about buying the Explorer I can say mine has been very good. They did a couple of TSB's but that was it. For the most part I have been very happy.

There are a few issues. I get an intermittent whining noise on acceleration. Seems to mainly do it when I first start the vehicle and take off although it doesn't do it every time. Sounds like it is coming from the transmission. Intermittent's are always tough. If the dealer doesn't hear it they can't fix it.

If someone has had this problem it would be great to know what it is.

Another question I have is that my Explorer is the base model. I would like to convert the headlight to the auto on type rather than having to always turn the switch. Has anyone made this change? What was the cost?

All in all the Explorer has been great!

Good to hear that you are a happy owner. As for installing the 'Auto On' system, I doubt if that the OEM system could be installed but I'm no expert. The sensor for that system is mounted in the dash and you would also require the proper switch. The system also regulates the instrument light intensity.
Perhaps you could search for an 'after market' system and have that installed.

I would suggest that you post the part about the 'Auto ON' question in the 'Modified' Forum.
Good luck.

Peter

Hi MN JIM,

Shoot me your info (VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name) in a private message (PM) so I can make your regional customer service manager aware of your concern. They'll reach out to you and work on getting this resolved.

Crystal
