Uh Oh, I just came from the ford.com website and guess what? The Explorer section under “SUVs & Crossovers “ is dead! I have tried several times to no avail. Nothing comes up. All the other SUV links are okay. Only the Ex section is kaput. Maybe this was just a momentary glitch, but I am interpreting it as a pause just before they post the new 2013 Explorer material. Didn’t we hear that the ‘13 Explorer data would be posted on or before 2/7/2012? Hmmmmm -

I was on the site earlier. All the 2013 info was posted.

2013 info up
Only on the Ford.com, unfortunately not on Ford.ca
What else is new? The Canadian site always seems to be slow in getting updated.

What are the pros and cons of the 20" wheels?

Thanks in advance.

Plan to hit DC auto show this weekend to see what is out there for a 6'4" 300lb person to fit in; and/or confirm explorer is my choice. Hope they have Ex on display.

Not sure of the Pros but the Cons are more expensive tires and the tendency for 'flat spotting' after being parked for a while. I've noticed that in the morning after being parked in the garage for the night. With 20" wheels there is also an increased chance of hitting them on the curb if you are not careful and the manual does not recommend taking them 'off road' but I think that is only if you plan to drive over rocky terrain thereby increasing the chance of damage to the rims.
Personally I would liked to have seeen 17" or 18" wheels as an option on the Limited. The 20" don't look bad though.

The Green Gem color is interesting... Also interesting is that they're not offering a real red- like a Red Fire or even a Toreador shade, only ruby.

My explorer is officially two years old, even though I bought it 11 months ago! :(

Pothole, off road, etc. damage risk, balancing issues with low profile tires, flat spotting after sitting, especially when cold, tires are more expensive to replace.

I love the "advanced navigation" page which shows the Explorer in a ditch.

I got depressed when I checked the standard features for the 2013 Explorer XLT and saw this:

Automatic headlamps
New for 2013 are available automatic high-beam headlamps. Activate them and they automatically change modes, going from low beam to high beam to provide enhanced illumination when you need it most. Also included are HID headlamps that last longer and use less energy than conventional halogen bulbs.

For real!? I wish I wait for 2013 to get the Explorer for the OEM HIDs on the XLT. GAHHH

Cons... Every person you see will feel the need to tell you how sweet your explorer looks with those wheels!

They are susceptible to damage. If you rub them on a curb, the aluminum will get damaged. However, knowing that upfront, just be careful parking when next to a curb.

Flat spotting after sitting? Really? Sitting for how long... a year? I have never had any tires flat spot on any of my vehicles, including sports cars. Not saying tires cant, but I would not list that as a con. IMHO

Heated Steering Wheel!

My most favorite option ever!!!! I loved it on my last vehicle and miss it on my 2011.

The 2013 is only missing the factory ability to be remote started by iPhone/Smart Phone! With that feature, it would have everything I could wish for!

It is a characteristic of larger tires. I and others have noticed flat spotting after having the vehicle sitting overnight as I mentioned above. It disappears after about 4 - 5 minutes of driving. It is even mentioned in the Owner's Guide which says it should disappear in 5 -15 miles of driving.. Other members have said it is quite common with the 20" and up tires. I have not had the problem since putting on the 17" Winters.
I agree it isn't really a CON as such. Just a a bit of a nuisance.

Depends on the tires too- my Father's old 2007 F150 would flat-spot overnight the General tires it was fitted with.
