Hi Guys,

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer Limited. Only 1,200 miles! The problem is that when I turn on the A/C after vehicle temperature is OK (meaning that the engine is not cold) and vehicle parked, I've noticed a tickling/clicking sound, about 5-8 times and then normalize. While doing the tickling/clicking sound, the RPM rises and goes back down, then after the tickling/clicking sound is done the RPM normalize as well. I saw a video on a 2013 Ford Explorer where the tach is doing the same thing as mine, apparently the user that post the video also heard some tickling/clicking sound but it’s not noticeable on the video. Here’s is the video:

Does anyone have an idea of what this might be? Any similar problems?

Pete

Welcome to the Forum ppablocg. :wavey:
Pete, it has been a while since I've had to use the A/C. It's 18 degrees F right now. It seems I looked at my RPM last Summer when turning the A/C on and the needle hardly moved at all. Definitely no 'clicking' noises.

I would like to suggest that you add the model and year to your profile so that it shows in the left hand column under your forum name. It would help members in answering future concerns/questions you may have since not all models are the same.
Good luck.

Peter

Have you had the fan replaced?

Have you had the fan replaced?

It can't be the fans if the RPM's are dropping that significantly where the car is about to choke itself out. That looks very serious. I suggest going to the dealer ASAP, calling Ford customer care, and get that handled because over time, it can really shorten your engine's lifespan. Who knows if it's damaging your engine right now. So just take it to the dealer ASAP. You have video evidence so they can't B.S. you about you not having the issue.

Sounds as if it might be the A/C compressor cycling on and off (clicking in and out) and as this happens there is normally a very small rpm climb and fall.....but if this is happening alot it may be that the A/C unit is some low on freon.....I'd have it checked.....best regards Plum

Hi ppablocg,

I recommend that you make an appointment at your dealership so they can check out your vehicle. Additionally, I'm happy to step in and see how I can assist; send me a PM with your info (VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name) and I'll do some research.
