2014 Sport P0299 & P0430 Catalytic Converter and Turbo underboost.

I think I'm going to go ahead and replace both turbos. I haven't seen the turbo red hot. I have hardly any power. Feels like a four-cylinder. But I do have metal shavings in my tubing.

Bank A is the front turbo. It can be removed and installed with basic hand tools in the driveway. Obviously the flange bolts will be tough to break loose so be ready for that with some map gas or pb blaster. You really should replace both turbos if you can at the same time. The rear turbo is a pain but it can be done.

If there is oil in the catalytic converter it should be replaced too or it could foul out the oxygen sensors.

It's taken me a while to get back to this post. I bought new turbos and I bought the converter for the front side. It's been one hell the project so far. I started at 9:00 in the morning on Friday. Ended at 5:00. Started again this morning at 11:00. And I just now got the back turbo out. I tried everything. I ended up pulling the passenger axle and sliding it through. I don't know how those have done it but I wasn't finding a way going straight down.

The front turbo looks to be reasonably okay. It's an OEM turbo. The fins are nicked up a little bit. The rear turbo was replaced at one time. Definitely aftermarket. There is no impeller or whatever it is called. A lot of ground up metal inside.

Yikes, that rear turbo is messed up. It doesn't even look like there's remnants of the impeller blades.

And that's the inlet, right?
If so, I'd be very concerned what went into the intercooler or engine.

There are signs of metallic in the oil.

I pulled the threaded thingy that goes into the block that the oil lines connect to. I was under the impression there should be a filter here.

Not seeing anything in the block. 🤔

There is a screen filter on the supply line. If yours has no screen then they probably forgot it. That rear turbo looks terrible obviously there's gonna be carnage if there's pieces in the pan.

Do you think I should drop the pan? I figured out where the filters are. The one I pulled out of old line was caked with metal.

Yeah that's it. This engine probably needs a complete tear down. It sounds like original owner had issues with the OEM rear turbo which was replaced with an Ebay turbo with a bad impeller that went boom. So really this engine has possibly had metal in it twice.

Since you are invested into it at this point if it were me I would pull the top end and timing cover off for proof of previous work done correctly AND to inspect internals for traces of metal. You will be able to see inside the oil pan with the cover off. The oil pickup tube can be unbolted if you take the timing chain off. Depending what you find may be better to scrap this engine if its got signs of carnage.

Is it possible to drop the pan without pulling anything first? I was underneath looking up with the pan yesterday and appears like it could drop. Situation is frustrating. I found an engine for $2,000 but had 90,000 mi on it with the turbos. I feel as if maybe I should have went that route.

I found a post in here that says you can drop if but need to remove the belt and ac.

You still want to verify what the work that was supposedly done by the seller. The timing guides could be help on with paper clips for all we know. Looking at that rear turbo I would have immediately started the tear down just for peace of mind.

I had a cracked cat which was welded the other week. Now I have 0299 and 0430/420. 420/430 have been on since I started using a livermois tune on a 3.5L ecoboost / 2017. Rip. I'm wondering if when they were removing the cat to weld it, they might have caused 0299.

Power level is great/awesome. No problems.
