Hi guys,

I had been monitoring this forum for awhile but finally decided to sign up:)

My husband and I purchased a new Explorer Sport in June and just wanted to post our opinions and experiences so far.

After our 2012 Traverse had so many issues, we decided to trade it in. We researched/drove an X5, Durango, Explorer, Grand Cherokee and GX. And the end of the day, we decided to go with the Sport, because for the options and performance, we thought it was our best bang for the buck. We drive a lot, so it had to be something that performed well on the highway as well as the windy back roads.

We just got back from Colorado today, and I am happy to inform we got 25mpg. I must say, after 10,000 miles, I have never been more flattered with a vehicle. From the ride, looks and performance - I find myself driving more than my husband on these trips. I really feel Ford "knocked it out of the park" on this vehicle.

Our only objections so far is the smallish gas tank, oddball halogen fog lamps vs LED head lamps, and the temperamental Myfordtouch. The traverse did seem larger inside, however, we like the interior better on the Sport (black leather w red stitching and center buckets purrrrrr lol) and overall cabin silence compared to the Chevy.

I have browsed many of the comments on this thread, and through them, learned what type of fuel, oil and even cleaners to use. I am very thankful to those who take their time to post. I must testify we have been very lucky so far. I have not noticed any odd creaks or noises, paint issues, window/glass fit issues or any of the common problems that seem to arise (knock on wood). When we really beat on this beast, we have noticed a light hint of sulfur smell, but it dissipates quickly and pales to the odd smells and drafts we would get in the traverse - where, at times, I would have to pull over and exit the vehicle for fresh air.

We will post picture shortly, as we are going to wash and wax (yes I say we, he has no choice but to let me help!)

Overall, we could not be happier with our purchase. We never owned a Ford before (husband was a Chevy up through and through) but were fine with the concept after the auto crisis, knowing Ford was the only Self sustaining American manufacturer left. Look forward to sharing more information with you all soon!

Welcome to the forum Alyssa!! Glad you like your new Explorer Sport.
Your hubby now knows what a real vehicle is!!! LOL.
Also be aware that most of the problems you read about on these forums are only a very small percentage of Explorer owners. There are many of us that have no problems whatsoever with our Ex's.
Hope you get many trouble free miles out of your Ex!! Good Luck!!

Welcome to the Forum Alyssaa1984.:wavey:
I agree with CajunFordEx's post above. More people with problems always seem to post to these forums which is only natural as they are seeking help and/or info. 10k miles already. I'm at around 4800 after 1.5 years.:)
Please add the 'model' (Sport) to your profile so it shows in the margin. That would be very helpful. Thanks.

Peter

I cannot wait to see the pictures. You made a wise choice. I came from a Chrysler product that I had to pretty much take a bath in to get into the Ex, but I could not be happier with my transition. The '16 Sports are easily some of the nicest looking/best performing SUV's on the road. Enjoy your Ford.

Hi guys,

Our only objections so far is the smallish gas tank, oddball halogen fog lamps vs LED head lamps,

You can buy and easily swap the stock fog lamps with LED bulbs. There is a thread on here regarding this. A lot of us did the swap. They are JDM ASTAR H10 9145 LED Bulbs for DRL or Fog Lights, Xenon White, and you can find them on amazon. Keep in mind this is just an aesthetic upgrade only and likely a functional downgrade from the halogen fogs.

They are a nice match until we find out the Ford OEM LED replacement bulb part number.

waiting for the pictures

:ttiwwp:

I had my Sport since June and I'm coming up on 5k... I'm enjoying it too!!!
Can't wait to see those pics!!!

Not sure why but in other forums if I don't see pictures, I usually smell a troll. Can never figure out why someone would create an account, post a bogus story that will drive lots of response and then never come back.

There is nothing to suggest that this is a "bogus" post on the OP's part. It has only been 2 days since this thread was started and I believe it is a holiday in the U.S., is it not? Many members post and do not post pictures.

Being that this forum makes it difficult to post photos (alot of limitations) without Elite membership might be the reason they have not posted photos.

That may be true but the Elite membership also supports this Forum so other members have a place to get help and post their comments.

Agreed - that's why I joined the membership!

The 2016 Explorer is one awesome, sexy looking SUV. I know it's similar to the previous year model, but the refreshed front end improves the cosmetics many times over. Way out of my price range though.

My 2005 XLT keeps me satisfied for now. In the future, I may grab a 4th gen.

Only one post, 3 days ago, and no pics. Could definitely be a troll. Have to see if she gets back with us.

Not everybody posts day in and day out on these forums. Not everybody puts up pictures either. I have never posted a picture on this forum as long as I have been here and have no intentions of ever posting a picture. I would also bet money that there are people registered on these forums for a long time that have never posted.
I can usually smell a troll a mile away and I don't think Alyssaa is a troll.

I am not sure exactly WHAT about my post can be considered 'trollish'? Sorry fellas, being Mommy and all, I have not had to time to log on here as much. I was not aware of the code of conduct.

I wanted to post pictures after we waxed it. However, the weather did not cooperate and it was too sunny to do it. Sorry guys.

You know, we're going to have to talk about your priorities. It goes, car, forum, family. :D

I'm curious: can someone confirm if the 2016 drivers footwell changed from 2015? I'm coming from a 2014 Escape with a pretty tight footwell and the dead pedal positioned at an awkward angle. Thanks!
