2016 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello. First want to say Thank you to everyone who post here. Long time reader. Your posts have been very helpful. Need some help. I have a 2016 Ford Explorer XLT 3.5. Allot of repairs lately. I will put list below starting Spring 2022. Never reset PCM/ECM. I did however have the battery completely disconnected several times recently. This was all Oct 2023. Had to change out Clock Spring. After completing job issue wasn't resolved. Figured SCCM which is on Backorder. Had to order used column. Used the SCCM from that & new clock spring but all good on that. This was last repair. Weeks before that had the Rear Hub/Bearings Replace & brake pads all the way around. ABS came on so had to replace the rear speed sensors. This may be the issue (thinking maybe PCM reset)...The Speed Sensors ended up being incorrect. Lit the dash up like a Christmas tree. ABS Light, Brake Light, Advanetrac, Traction Control, Terrain Management Fault, Hill Assist, etc. Had to drive like that several days until new parts came. Long-Short...Changed out Sensors with correct ones & that is fixed. The Wrong sensors were for Explorer with Automated Park Assist. So the codes that popped up (which are cleared now) was No communication, Incompatible part, I have the print out.

After those repairs in Oct 23...When I drive it in "D"...After a little the Yellow Wrench Pops up, At the Same Time the Service Advance Trac Comes on & there is a Hard Jerk Shift. Those lights stay on as well as Traction Control, Then the hill Assist Comes on, Then Terrain Management Fault. So can't put in 4wd. If I continue to drive in "D"...Once in awhile I get the "Jerk" again when the Advance Trac Alert Light Pops back on. After I park & let sit...All Lights gone at start up. Drive it again & it happens the same. I had them clear all codes at Autozone day before yesterday. There were no codes accept the stored ones for the ABS. Will get it scanned today. Now...This may be the key for someone in here to pinpoint. Starting yesterday...I'm driving it in "S" & using the Select Shift. Zero Lights...Zero Issues...Drives Like new. 2 Days...Nothing. In Drive, lights starts up in first 5 minutes. Tranny Fluid is Good. I bought this Used at 55,000 miles at 103,000. I never serviced Transmission. Could it be PCM needs to be reset? Baffles me how when I take away computer's ability to shift it runs great. Just note...NO ABS lights when this happens. I read about the Battery & MAP Sensor. Any thoughts here?

Oct 23 Repairs:
New SCCM & Clock Spring
Rear Speed Sensors
Front/Rear Brake Pads
Rear Hub/Bearings

These Repairs done Together Spring 2022:
New PTU
New Front Hubs/Bearings
New Battery

There is a TSB for 2018/2019 3.5 Ecoboost Engines where the Manifold Absolute Pressure And Temperature Sensor needs to be replaced. TSB 19-2183. I had the problem twice on my Taurus. Same type of driving issue your are describing.

But you don't have an 3.5 EcoBoost engine. Sounds like a bad TCM. You are going to need a code reader that reads all the modules, not just the ones an auto part store can read. My 2018 Explorer has 43 modules.

Thanks for the Reply. Actually put one in my cart on Amazon this morning thinking worth the investment. Not sure if the BlueDriver is a Good choice but seems to do what I would need.

Welcome to the Forum.
A bad wheel speed sensor can cause some of those issues.

Thanks for the reply. I changed out the rear sensors when the code came up. Everything went away. No ABS light or codes now.

5 Days straight driving using select shift & no problem. Did get it scanned Friday. Went to Autozone since don't have a scanner yet. Code
U0100-00 Lost Communication With (ECM/PCM). I read some indications are battery issue. Did replace battery last year. Guess I'm testing that first.
