Good morning - I bought 2016 LTD with the 301a pkg. Nice. But...at acceleration from dead stop I have front right wheel shudder/wobble. At high speed it goes away. Odd too, on Friday I test drove a 15 LTD. When the salesman and I drove away the front right felt like the wheel was going to come off -- he screamed, "STOP, GO BACK TO THE LOT!!" Then he voiced his displeasure with service mgr. / So I'm disappointed at the 2016 issue. Any similar issues or guidance -- I'll be headed back to dealer soon. Thnx in advance, Jim

Is this the 2.3 Ecoboost?

No sir. 3.5. Possible solution...I think...I turned OFF the LANE ASSIST. It appears better. A more knowledgable friend is going to test w me later today or tomorrow. Insights welcome. // Otherwise, the technology on this thing is too cool.

I turned OFF the LANE ASSIST -- it apprears to be better at accel from a dead stopo. Around here in the DC metro area there are so many lines and poorly painted lines -- I'm guessing that the sensors were "confused"? I'll give it some good testing this coming weekend. I'm glad I found this site. Thnx in advance to all who help and share, Jim

that makes some sense - I noticed the 2015 edge titanium I test drove in hard rain - I thought acted funny. but drove another one on a clear day and it responded differently - I too chalked it up to the lane departure and auto brake/cruse systems kicking in or such.

we have a 2016 XLT - so none of the lane departure stuffs - it's a smooth as a whistle. I worried a bit because they all have the DCT style trans - we had a focus with the studder at a stop. but I still say most of that was the early clutch design.

anywho - has your's gotten better - and mechanically speaking - I'd have them check the front wheels/tires for dynamic balance it the issue comes up again.

Thank you for that. One other thing has made it better -- I was somewhat shockedswhen I got down to read the Hankook sidewalls and it recommended 51 PSI max -- dealer onlyhad 35 in the tires. So I pumped up to 49 and now it REALLY feels like I have power steering - LOL. Shuddering is milder -- salesman said that Service said there can be a "problem if you feather the accelerator". Sigh.

51psi is likely the Max pressure you can run, but not the proper pressure. Look on the door label, it should be ~35psi and that’s what you should run. You may get better steering feel with higher pressure but at the expense of traction and tire wear. If I were you, I would drop them back down to what the door label specifies.

yeah, that is WAY too high and will create several other issues.
- Horrible wear on your tires
- Less resistance to road damage/debris as the tire will have no "give"
- Risk of tire failure as tire temps rise on the road and already at the "max" gives no room for expansion.

Yup. 51 is max. I've had great luck with vehicle and bike tires running them at 2-4 just below max -- I think its mostly the type of driving I do -- over the decades I've consistently received compliments from techs on the longevity of my tires -- works for me. Will keep ya'll informed. Thnx, Jim

oh dear - tire pressures.

so that door placard pressure is there for some good reasons

1) you need to have some head room between tire rated max - and the pressure reading with the tires normal temp - weight on wheels. why - they will heat up a good bit going down the road - and you need to have allowance.

2) the pressure at normal temp is also to help the tire set the tread pattern on the road - IE it has to give a bit - under load - and have a consistent tire patch in contact with the road - under hard braking, turning, and even acceleration - while still being within those pressure for safe sidewall flex.

so please don't run your tires at or even near the max. but I will also say as you load up the car for a road trip for every 200 or so lbs of weight - add a psi to the tires, or so. not sure if it's on the door placard, but it should be.

Also I was wrong about the transmission/ transaxle in the explorer - it isn't a DCT exactly

it's a automatic with the clutch packs and the gear rings staggered in line - co produced and developed with GM. with the gears staggered it sportier applications it will respond like a DCT - and with the bigger clutches it tolerates more abuse and yet runs more efficiently than older gen automatics.

I think you should have them re-look at your tires and perhaps you need to have some new ones put on. I'd start with putting the back ones on the front to see how the issue changes.

THNX ! Good info> Jim
