One of our 2018 FPIUs has 4 working FOBs and the other has none. So I grabbed 2 and took the one to a locksmith to have them programmed. They do vehicles every day 4-5p. So after about 30 minutes and a phone call to tech support he tells me that this explorer does not have the equipment for keyless entry. Basicaly that it was not an option. Just trying to verifiy if this is correct or should i go elsewhere? Not rtying to add remote start, just would be great to be able to use a fob to lock and unlock the doors.

2016-19 does not pair the same as earlier years. Instead of pairing based on pushing a button on the fob you have to pair by entering the 48-character TIC code found inside of the key fob. That means it has to be OEM Ford key fob in order to work. Typically a dealer does this, but luckily that function is now supported on Forscan as well so you can do it at home with a laptop and a $20 adaptor.

So I went by one dealer, turns out they were the ones the locksmith called about it while they were trying. That service department told me that my FPIU did not come with keyless entry so there for could not be set up. They did not do anything other than enter the vin. I went to another locksmith and he tried and said i needed forscan. Is it possible that they sent some out that did not have the ability to have keyless?

As Rich said you will need the factory key. Dealer will probably say you don't have it. Do purchase this part# GB5Z-15K601-C. Do not open the package until programming is complete. The TIC code is on the packaging. You will need FORScan. Please refer to this video. It'll show you how to do it.

Am I wrong in thinking that keyless entry came along with the number pad on the door, so if you have the number pad, should have keyless entry hardware or vice-versa, no number pad means lacks the keyless entry hardware?

There's keyless entry (wired keypad) and remote keyless entry or RKE which is the key fob. All PIU's are capable of RKE when enabled in Forscan. The wired keypad in the door pillar requires adding the pillar pad, and wiring to the BCM as well as enabling in Forscan. However they do sell the battery stick-on key pad that is programmed the same way as the ley fobs.

I have 2 factory fobs for one of my other FPIUs, it came with 4. They all work fine on that car. Can i get that number any other way? Can you confirm that all FPIU have the equipment form the factory for keyless entry? The dealer did not say anything about my key or fob he didnt even look, he ran the vin and said it did not come with keyless entry.

Does the manual make mention of keyless entry?

Thank you that is what i thought was most logical. I have never used forscan so I may look for someone in my area that has some experience.

^ Look around on forscan's forum, there may be someone who has posted a tutorial, or there might be one on youtube.

I could be wrong but don't the manuals generally include info for every possible option, a single edition for that model year, even if the vehicle doesn't have that option?

There are manuals for the PIU and if and option is not standard, it will usually be noted as (if equipped). I just pulled up the manual for the 2018 PIU and the "keyless" appears 4 times. Three times with "keyless start" and once in the fuse listings where it mentions "Securicode with keyless entry keypad".
So going by that, it would appear that "keyless entry" is not available.

................................................... Not rtying to add remote start, just would be great to be able to use a fob to lock and unlock the doors.
The keyfobs shown in the manual both have a Lock and Unlock button.

Did you get this sorted out? Does the PIU you are trying to add Key Fobs for have TPMS? (i:e you can check the tire pressure on the instrument cluster?
