2020 Explorer XLT can 2020+ PIU headlight fit ?

Hi guys,

I'm wondering about something. Could it be that the LED ballast under the headlight is different for the PIU, causing it to send less power to the turn signal so that it acts as a parking light? I'm comparing both headlights side by side, and they are wired the same way. I might just try swapping the ballast.

This could be the cheapest solution for people who do not want to buy the PIU headlight.

I can confirm that if you change the balast under the headlight with the base model or the PIU your headlight will act as a PIU or Base model!!!

This is amazing :) Enjoy guys

EDIT 2025-01-18, Swap was a sucess no problem detected

EDIT : What I'm trying to do is not to have amber DRL but to have physical PIU headlights on a 2020 XLT.

The next step is to adjust via Forscan or a custom harness to replicate all stages of the PIU lights

Hi everyone, hope you're enjoying the holidays!

I’m planning to purchase a 2020 Ford Explorer XLT (currently owning a 2018 model) and would like to know if the Police Interceptor headlights will fit the XLT Explorer. Additionally, will the connectors and plugs work seamlessly with the XLT?

The reason for the change is to get the LED insert for the intersection light. I also prefer having the orange parking lights without the signature lights.

Thank you!

I'm aware of this but it's no help :

That doesn’t make sense…as the HCM for the PIU and in my case ST are the same part number. Which means my headlights should look like the PIU headlights….and they don’t. I’m sure the wiring is different inside the headlight as there won’t be any wires to the white led strip since there is none.

Sorry i can't do it for you... but it is what it is .. I did what i wanted with my headlight and share the solution with you guys.

Have a good day
