2020 Explorer ST
I have a 2020 Explorer ST with the factory 7 and 4 trailer plug and I'm not getting any constant power to the 7 way plug. I have checked fuses 42, 57 and 91 (with an ohm meter) and they are all good. I've spoken to my local dealership and they told me that sometimes things like key in the vehicle, doors closed car running and possibly even needing the trailer hooked up might affect the constant power. The strange thing is that when I first purchased the Explorer I had a similair thing happen, but it somehow fixed itself! I did nothing and it just started working one day.

Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I might be able to get the hot line to the 7 way plug to work?

Thanks

howdy and welcome! if it randomly fixed itself that to me seems like maybe a bad connection? or is it n some way controlled by em newfangled softwares? if so then maybe that? not sure about the new X's

Are you sure you checking the right terminals under the right conditions?
- A four wire plug has running lights, left turn, right turn and ground.
- A 7 wire adds trailer brakes, backup lights and auxiliary power (for camper lights, etc).
The aux power is higher amperage (30 amp?) so it runs through a relay. The trailer brake power is also run through a relay. And on most newer Ford trucks they tie the trailer plug into the parking sensors and dash display so the other systems still work properly after you connect a trailer.

It’s not as simple as older vehicles. However, it’s odd that the Ford dealer can’t give you more specific directions on how to test and troubleshoot it.
