Hello everyone, my 2020 explorer xlt moon roof vent is not closing flush with the fixed portion of the moon roof, otherwise the moon roof opens and closes as it should. There is about a 1/2 inch difference in the plane of the two moon roof sections where wind is able to get into a slot and the sound drives me crazy. I havent noticed any rain getting in. Does anyone have any suggestions? Could it be a bad fuse or a switch that needs replacing? I am hoping I can find a less costly fix before going the route of a new moon roof motor and install, which i read involves removing some of the headliner. Are there some things that I can do to troubleshoot this and eliminate possible other issues that may be producing the problem? I recently had the front windshield replace by the company my insurance company sent me to. I had to go back to them because the cover for the “black box” that sits on the windshield was askew and not seated properly. After they tried for a while to fist bang it into place, they decided that they had installed the rear view mirror too close to the “black box” which was keeping the “black box” cover from seating properly. After they removed and reinstalled the rear view mirror further away from the “black box”, they were able to seat the cover properly. I am wondering if maybe with all the fist banging they did on the “black box” cover while it was semi attached to all the stuff it protects, maybe some wire came loose or they damaged some switch?? Since I don’t know where all the control components which are involved with the operation of the moon roof and vent are located, I don’t know if the problem could lie some where else other than the actual moon roof motor. I hope this makes sense. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Cheryl

This wouldn't have anything to do with a fuse since the moonroof is working and doubtful it is a switch or that the work done on the windshield and mirror would have caused this.
Has it always been like this or is it something new? Are you able to physically move the back part up so that it is even with the fixed panel? I checked mine although it isn't an Explorer and there is no way it can drop down since it comes to rest on the trim panel of the headliner.

Peter, thanks for your reply. This is a new issue, where the movable moonroof won't sit flush with the rear most section of the moon roof. My moon roof also has a venting function, which raises the moveable portion of the moon roof about 4 inches to allow air into the car. This seems to be where the issue is as the motor is not fully returning the moveable moon roof section to the same plane as the fixed portion of the moon roof. I tried to see If I could force it up with my hands, but it didn't seem to want to budge. I did find a video on youtube that showed how to recalibrate a moonroof but that didn't fix this problem. Looks like I'm going to have to fork over the $1600 to the dealer to fix this.

You could try putting a stopper/block of some sort on either side at the place where the panel comes to rest to see if that works in levelling it out and stopping the wind noise.
I don't suppose you still have warranty?

Is there anything jammed in the track at all? A small rock or junebug perhaps?
