2022 Explorer Limited
Hi everyone. I've done plenty of searching here but not seeing answers for the issue i'm encountering, hoping for some insight.

2022 Limited delivered in May and i've always had a minor exhaust rattle/tapping. Sounds very tinny, almost like an exhaust hanger clamp that isn't fully tightened and allowing a bit of movement. Only noticeable above 35-40mph, very noticeable around 50+ mph. The noise sounds like it's coming from just below the 3rd row seat inside the left rear wheel assembly. I've gotten under the car and shook some pieces around to see if anything stood out, but no luck.

I found this 2020 TSB related to the flex piping used in the catback area, but this only mentions 2020 so i'd like to think my issue is different: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10177124-0001.pdf

Any report of this issue? Appreciate any feedback or insights.
Thanks all

Welcome to the Forum.
Have you taken your Explorer to the dealer for the rattling issue? One reason that NHTSA bulletin only mentions the 2020 model is that it was issued in June 2020 before any other model years were built.:)

The flex section rattle is very apparent at startup. They supposedly revised the flex sections sometime during MY2021 so I think it would be unlikely to be the issue. I would definitely bring it to the dealer. Plenty have had loose heat shields causing rattling. Even the lower undercovers are poorly fastened and many will hear a tapping like sound on the highway with the covers flapping around.

I just had my driver side catalytic converter replaced and the exhaust rattle sounds better now and the excessive exhaust fumes smell on cold start is also gone. So happy this was finally corrected at 33,000 miles and almost 3 years of ownership. I feel like I have a newer vehicle now! I think it acclelerates smoother from a stop now. Recently I had noticed hesitation under throttle at low speeds. I saw on my invoice there was also a PCM recalibration update/recall. Seems to have done the trick! I had not yet mentioned that issue but they must have noticed on a test drive.
