I just purchased a 97 explorer xlt with 4.0 sohc. It has the stock style "teardrop" wheels, but they are the 255/60/16's. What did these wheels fit from the factory? Everything I have seen including owners manual and door sticker says it should have been equipped with 235/75/15's. Apparently the Eddie Bauer version used this size tire but with different wheels. Maybe the mountaineer offered this style?

V8 explorers had those wheels with those tires. I think it was standard for some and an option for others.

i think all the 4x4 sports came with them if you have the appearance package. eddie bs 99 and up (maybe earlier), xls with sport package 99 and up (maybe earlier too). my 4x4 sport has them too and every other 4x4 sport i know has them. i could be mistaken though.

The 16" teardrop style wheels didn't come out until '98. My '97 Sport came with the chrome 3 spoke 16" wheels, a friend's '96 Eddie Baur came with the 3 spoke 16" wheels and a co-workers '98 XLT came with the 16" teardrop style wheels. If his '97 has the teardrop wheels, then someone took them off a newer Explorer.
