I just recently finished a few front end repairs, and was about ready to put new tires on my X.

The X has shackles and TT done to it already, but at my repair shop they said the 265's would be rubbing on my upper control arm, is this a common issue? I'd hate to use what they recommend for the tire size as they said that 245's would not rub.

Any suggestions?

My 265's didn't rub anything except for the sway bar at full lock. That was with stock wheels. The guys at tire shops don't always know everything, although they sometimes want to act like they do.

Heck, my 285's don't rub. They are darn close, but don't rub.

hmmm....

We'll I'll try out the spare that is 265-70-r16, I think their concern is the rim. The tech mentioned that if it was offset a little there would be no problem, but the tolerence is small enough that if the rim was not straight there might be a problem.

I got the 16" rims from a friend of mine that sold his 2004 Ex.

So my dilemma now is:
1 - do I take a chance if the rims are not true and straight.
2 - maybe chance a set of spacers to give me the little offset

any suggestions?

The price of the rims was too good to refuse (free), and the tires are were on sale at the time (Nokian Vativa 265-75-r16).

Ok, you didn't mention the wheels were from a 3rd gen. I'd say the guy is right then, the sidewall will most likely rub the UCA. I really don't trust spacers, but that would be the best choice at this point if you are set on keeping the wheels.
