hey guys

how would the 2nd gen step platform do as rock sliders? im talking about the thick , tubular steel ones, not the flat step platforms.

i was looking at the underside and its got supports underneath that attach it to the frame. or do you think id be better off making one of 2 in tubular steel that has a bottom flush with side supports to the frame?

looking at taking those off that junker

its 150 for the pair. is that desirable or would it be better to keep ground clearance. looks like theyll hang down about 2 in from the frame beneath the rockers

Factory tube steps aren't thick enough to work as rock sliders and they mount to a lip on the body, not the frame, so they actually flex a bit when you put weight on them. Also, used steps aren't worth $150, you can get them for cheaper. You can get a set of new, aftermarket nerf bars for $200.

If you want rock sliders, make them out of heavy steel. The walls of the tubes those steps are made out of are about as thick as the metal used to make your fenders.

good thing i didnt buy them out of hand. do you think there is anything valuable on this truck that would do my 1st gen any good?

Overhead console and associated wiring/sensors. Rear disk brake conversion. Seats. Engine/tranny. Depends on what you want.
