2nd or 3rd gen?

Ok, im about to be back in the market for a new explorer. it will be my daily driver/tow rig, either way it will need to have a V8 and be 4x4, I wont really be wheeling this one to much, just getting around my deer lease, and parents ranch. I also want a top of the line interior, and be able to stuff 33s on it. I plan on driving it for a long time.

If you want to fit 33s then I would think you'd have an easier time doing that on a 2nd gen. Also if you plan on keeping it a long time I'd guess that the 2nd gen with the 5.0 would cost less to maintain.

Remember that the 2nd gens with 5.0s were wither 2WD or AWD--no low range. You can swap in a BW 4406 (search) part-time 2-speed case, though. If you don't want to do any swapping then you'd have to get a 3rd gen to get a V8 and low range.
