Now here is the problem. I'm using a a4ld from a 91 ranger and installing it in a 86 ranger. I thought that most a4ld case's are the same, but after 4 long hours trying to line up the transmission to the motor and finally trying to install everything I stopped when i tried to connect the oil lines to the trany, then i noticed the 3-4 shift solenoid is completely different, the 91 ranger has 3 prongs and the 86 ranger has only two.

I need to know how to overcome this obstacle. what do the wires go to? can i still use the 91 ranger connector and find the same wires on the 86 ranger connector, but what do i do with the third wire?

sorry about the blurry picture.

Swap the electrical plug with 2 wires, and the valve body from the 86 to the 91. Get a new valve body gasket. Swap the hydraulic fittings if they have trouble matching the existing hydraulic lines.

Can i take a short cut without removing the transmission from the engine? Can i just wire the electrical connectors to match the 2 prong in the 86.

i was looking at the wiring diagram on the 91 and the 86 and they seem similar except the the 86 diagram is missing a 3-4 shift solenoid.

can i link the orange/yellow to the yellow wire to the egr control solenoid? the 91 ecm pin outs seem similar to the 86 ecm.

I will try it tomorrow.

Now question. What are the size to the fittings for the oil cooling lines on the a4ld? for the 91 large fittings and the 86 smaller fittings?

I'm going to town tomorrow to find an adapter that can convert the large 91 fitting to fit the oil cooling lines to the 86.
