Okay, so my husband and I are looking into the Explorer Sport and we notice that they are having problems with the turbo on the Ecoboost that is in the 2013. We have read where the whole car looses power when you are passing or coming onto the highway at high rate of speed. Has anyone had this problem and has Ford found the fix?? I really dont want to buy a 2013 or '14 and have this happen to my husband and I when we have our daughter in the car or better yet either one of us in the car period..

I believe you're referring to the issue with the loose boost hose.
Yes, there's a TSB and it's an easy fix from what I hear.

Basically requires tightening a hose clamp. I can't tell you which one though as I'm not sure.

Welcome to the Forum reaver75. :wavey:
As ieee_raider mentioned, the only apparent issue with the 3.5L Ecoboost is the hose being blown off. It has happened to a few members with the Sport and all it required was reconnecting the hose and making sure the clamp was tight.

yes, just a loose clamp on the hose that wasn't tightened down properly. Not a big deal...and like every other problem posted on these forums, for every 1 that has an issue there were 1000's that are just fine!

Right on, they also say something about condensation building up in the turbo or motor and that can make it loose power on the '13's... Am I being to paranoid?? LOL

Have not heard of any issues like this, where are you getting this info?

I did have the lower CAC tube blow off as the others have stated, but it was a very quick fix (attach and clamp). Other than that I've had no issues w/ my Sport.

For reference, can you explain where this tube is?
Nobody has been able to answer me... lol

No issues with my Sport. Best vehicle I have ever owned. Power is amazing and it's a smooth ride. The interior is spacious and the seats are extremely comfortable. Just ask them to double check the hose when you buy it. Took them 5 minutes for mine and have never had an issue.

We've never have had it back to the shop or had it checked because we haven't had an issue the first 8k miles !!!

but be forewarned !!!!
it WILL surprise you when you hammer it in first -
that 1-2 shift may even frighten the children at full boost -
heck it frightens some adults too

Yup. My old lady gets on me for jumping on the throttle. Hammers her head back against the headrest. Ahhhhh... I just love the twin turbo engine. Jump on the throttle sends her head back. Jump on the brakes and it's everyone to the front. LOL!!!!!

No issues with mine.

Moving Thread

Moving this thread to the 'Discussion' forum since it really has nothing to do with IVT.

You will be sad for not getting the 3.5L Ecoboost. I am so sad that it came out 2 model years later. If only I waited to purchase mine. Everything about the Sport is really good.

Yeah I test drove the ecoboost in the F-150 and I loved it but my hubby wanted the 5.0. So thats what we got but I really like the new Explorer and he said will not let have nothing else but the Sport. We are just kind of worried about the motor since the F-150 are having so many problems with the Ecoboost and the same motor is in the Sport as well..

Well your problems are different in the F-150. The Ecoboost had problems because of the intercooler working too well causing condensation inside the intake manifold. Other than that is a small problem that rarely occurs and is easy to fix on turbocharged vehicles and that is the vacuum tube coming off due to the high boost. I'm sure they fixed these issues in the Sport.

no issues here in my 13 Sport. The regular Explorer is nice but once you drive the sport, the regular one feels boring. Definitely the best family vehicle I have ever owned.

Yeah thats what we have been reading on the Ecoboost. That the car go into limp mode when you enter onto a freeway because you trying to go as fast everyone else. I will just make sure that they check the hose before we buy the car to make sure the hose is on tight like I was told. Thanks for all the help.. This has helped my hubby to because he was more concerned then me. :)
