My wifes ex starts up hard sometimes. Mostly when it's cold. You turn the key she starts fine exsept goes to about 2500 rpm and then goes down to about 700 or less almost stalls (if you give it gas at this point it will) and goes to a idle at about 1000 till warm.

I'm leaving friday morning for Lake Tahoe. So not much time to fix. I'm thinkin EGR or O2 sensor although no check engine light has come on.

I'd vote for the idle air controle valve(IAC) or a loose or missing vacume line.
Search for vacume leaks and it will tell you how to check. Spraying some sort of cleaner around..something like that...The info is out there.

Put some "Varsol" in a sqeeze bottle, and start spraying your engine around the vaccum lines. If the engine starts to stall, then you know there is a leak around that area. Plus it'll degrease your engine and make it all nice and cean!:D

"...two birds with one stone":p

Do the rpm's surge up and down until it dies? Once it is warmed up does it run just fine? I had the exact same problem. I would say it is probably the 01m01 or 00m12 TSB. It is not a recall, but many dealers will do it for free. Do a search for these TSB's, and you should find more information/others' experiences. I think the problem has something to do with the intake gaskets.

Ditto - if the problem is with your Ex with the SOHC engine.
