mysticclam my lift is done but guess what! I lost my damned socket in the same cavity. I cant seem to get the thing outta there. every time i move it rolls back and forth, side to side. I was pissed off when it happend and then started laughing cause i remembered you talking about it. I am happy with the lift and the 33s i put on it today. The bumpers look like poo, but it just gives me a reason to get some made for it. Oh any suggestions on the socket in the cavity?

yeah, its cause the edge of the socket goes under the hinge.
Im about outta ideas, mine is rolling around in there too. It was quiet the first time I drove but i guess its loose now.
Im going to get a good strength magnet, get a string through from one end to the other (via coat hanger maybe) and then tie the magnet to it. By draging the magnet through I should be able to pick it up.
I got 2 seven foot 3"x3" square tube that Im going to make a new rear bumper with. (for free woooo hooo) The front is pretty straight using washers. Im going to go back later and elongate the top hole in the bracket to make it straight.
glad you got it done in one day!
did you put 33x10.5 on or did you have other lift?

well the tires are actually 285/75/16 which equals 33.1. i only had to trim a quarter of an inch off the plastic at the front of my stock running boards. They howl pretty good going down the road, but not enough to annoy me. I went from getting bore with my explorer to falling right back in love with it again. When you get your bumpers done you need to take some pictures so i can get and idea of what Im going to do. I was thinking of having tube bumpers made with a skid plate in the front. We will have to see what happens. I think today I am going to try to fish that socket out of there before i go postal. i have to have my stereo on all the time just so i cant hear the thing rolling around. Let me know if the magnet on a string works btw.

I think thats about 11 1/4 inch wide so that probably helps em fit.
You have a second gen so I dont think anything I do to fit my front is applicable.
My rear bumper is going to be basic but functional. Not cool looking or anything, it will be better looking than the gap. I just realized that My license plate is going to have to be moved up onto the hatch somehow.

well i starting the prep work for my 3" BL lift and F150 spacers w/shackels later thim month. I got all of the 8 body bolts broke free, and the front two are weird i got the nuts from the top loose but the bolts are stuck in the rubber thing and when i turn the bolt it spins the rubber.

1) what can i do? melt them out?
2) what do i drill? The center of those two pucks that are stuck??

thanks
charlie

dont melt em, you need them. Mine had a 6 sided part that sticks up from the "puck" it fits in a 6 sided hole. When it first starts getting loose it can move far enough that the sticking up part is out of the hole and it can spin. I just had to turn it while holding up the "puck" (I think its a rubber bushing or something) and it stops itself from turning. When that is off you will see its threaded all way through and the replacement bolt isnt so you have to drill out the threads, youll see when its off.
