3000 RPM's at startup

I have a '97 with the 4.0 OHV engine and it has a little over 84,000 miles. For the past week or so when the engine starts it goes right up to 3000 RPM's and hangs there for a few seconds then idle to 500 where it almost stalls but then jumps up to 900. Other than that the idle is fine and the truck drives normally. I reset the computer twice by disconnecting the battery, but this didn't help. Could this be an IAC bypass valve problem? Very possible it's the IAC. Try cleaning it and see if there is any difference.
