305/40/22 are bigger than 31.6x12.3

For some reason i can't figure out how the 305/40/22 are only 31.6 inches tall because on my sport trac right now i have BFG All Terrain 31x10.5x15 and i put the 305/40/22 next to them and they were atleast 2 inchs bigger. Then i put them next to my friends BFG Mud Terrain 305/70/16 and they were just as tall, even though that measures out to be 32.81x12.0
