Hello All-I just bought a 2000 XLS with 31 K miles. I love the truck but the check engine light came on 2 days ago. It is still under warranty so I guess it will be going back to the dealer on Monday. After reading the manual it doesn't seem like this is a big deal, but I don't think it should be happening this early. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site. You'll find everything you want to know about your truck right here. Weelcome abaord!!

The check engine light can be caused by all kinds of things large and small. Since it is still under warranty, taking it back to the dealer is the best option. They'll throw it on their diagnostic computer and it will hopefully give them a problem code and they can fix whatever is causing it. Be sure and let us know what you find out. Good luck.

dont panic
take it back to the dealer
it can be very simple even a loose gas cap can trigure it

Welcome to the site!!

Yeah, the gas cap will probably be the first thing the dealer tells you to check. I wouldn't worry about it, Explorers are great vehicles and big problems are rare in new ones (unless it's a 97' with a timing tensioner problem - Ford took care of this btw). Take it into the dealer, they'll run your codes and you'll know what the deal is. It's probably nothing, but I can understand how it could be slightly frustrating with a new vehicle.

Congrats on the new X and welcome aboard!

Happy postin'!:)

I took the truck to Apple Ford today and they ran the code. Apparently I had a faulty gas cap which was not sealing properly and causing the light to come on. They replaced the cap, reset the computer, and all is well. Great site

How do I miss this stuff!

Columbia! If you get into any mods (or even if you don't) with your X, you'll definately have to join us for a run!

Have any plans for your X?
