Ok, we all know the restrictions of the Engine bay size and normal Swaps. But if Money was wasn't really a factor. What needed to be fabed, fitted, and Shoehorned in could be. What Motor set up would you suggest. This isn't really just a pie in the sky thread. It is more of setting a goal thread.

To me I would love to have a New Generation Modular type Motor. A 5.4 DOHC S/C sounds like a winner. But I know that might now be the best way. Whoever has the info share it with the rest of us.

Don't forget, this still needs to be Streetable too.

Yup, Lightning setup doesn't sound bad at all ;)

Take the front clip off, and cut the framerails off from the firewall forward. Build new ones, and have some suspension made to work with it. Re-hang front clip and you're good to go.

BTW- I know you've seen this before, but here's a reminder of what you're up against. Keep in mind this is only a 4.6 DOHC and not a 5.4

You read my mind!

Oh, wouldn't the new 5.O Cammer Motor be the Sbit! Hopefully Ford watches these forums and wants to give me one!
High hopes. Ford won't let go of a blend door or a rear wiper arm or a fix for a rocking seat and you want a motor? I want some of what you got. :smoke: ;)

Sounds like you want to crank some serious times out of that X!

Personally, I would go with the 5.4 or 351, both supercharged. Since an Explorer would be somewhat lacking for really high speeds, I would want a big, torquey motor to make up for that with killer holeshots. The 351 would probably be the easiest. Off topic, but I know a guy right now who's doing a 302-351 stroker for his Mustang.

I'm not very "in the know" about the 347, so I'll leave that to older, wiser heads.

The 4.6 DOHC is a runner up, but they seem a bit too rev-happy for use in a truck. The 4.6 DOHC in my Lincoln is fun in an aerodynamic car, but I wouldn't want it in a truck. 70-130mph bonzai runs aren't exactly a flying bricks' specialty, and you'd need some seriously short gears to have good holeshots. Streetable, yes, but only if you don't do much highway driving.

One more thing- have you considered a big block? First, you'd have to check your local laws. You know that, I'm sure. That aside, if you can fit one of those modular motors, you could probably fit a BB with some creative mounting and fabrication. Ever seen one of those modulars out of the engine bay? HUGE, in physical size it's way bigger than the 302. You could go N/A on a big block, so you wouldn't have to worry about supercharger rebuilds or snapping the belt. No parasitic drain from a supercharger is also a plus.

Btw, if what I just said is totally retarded, tell me. I like to learn.
(that sure makes my post sound credible, doesn't it?)

A 347 or the right 351 swap would be much much easier than the OHC's of course; and you could probably build the same power pretty easily (Troll).

So how much of this thread is gonna be pipe dream and how much not?

My goal is to put the powerdyne blower on my 302 thats in my truck. The 302 that I have in my garage will be getting bored and stroked to a 347 and will be pretty built up. Then I will put the powerdyne on the 347 run a 9lb pulley and go mustang hunting.

Hey Black Magic,

I take it from this thread that you don't have the sohc blower on yet?
Did things fall through?

If I had to do it all over again it would be a NA 351 bored and stroked to 410 ci. Big heads and lots of cubes would make around 525 hp on motor plus about 300 in juice would not hurt.

Well I am going to be going with a 5.0 SOHC forged stroker motor based off of the 4.6 mustang GT engine. Running a KB 1.7L at 14-15 psi. Built 4R70W tranny if Lentech doesnt offer something for the new 5 speed autos (new stang GT) by then that can handle the beating this will take. Live axle swap most likely, unless I can get away with running my IRS and not killing my halfshafts.

But if I had it to do with alot more money then I would definately go with a billet 5.0 stroker DOHC, matched with twin T52 turbo's. Would make 900-1000 rwhp NP. Mate that to one heck of a built tranny from Level-10 or Lentech, swap a solid rear axle in there, get custom tuned suspension, Centerline rims with some nice wide rear slicks, Oh yeah and a roll cage from he11 too! Streetable(depends on what your version of that is) and very fun. Realistically this would be waaaaaaaaay out of most,...if not all peoples price range. I willl just stick with my goal of around 550-600 rwhp from the setup I have planned when I get back.
