360 back up camera recall 2020-2023 models - FSA 23S02

I purchased a 2023 about 10 months ago. I received the 23S23 recall letter, but the letter stated to only bring it in if I started experiencing the blue screen. Well, it started happening shortly after so I took it in for the recall fix in September '23. I was told they updated the software and a rear-view camera was ordered and would be about a week. 6-weeks later I called the dealership and was told the cameras were on Seed Stock. I believe this means that Ford is replacing all the cameras on the vehicles sitting on lots so they can sell them before correcting the issue on vehicle from customers who have already paid and taken receipt of the vehicle. great Customer Service Ford... NOT!

I do not believe the fix if actually the rear-view camera. My Sync screen will go black or Blue half screen even if I never put it in reverse. Also, when I am in the blue screen situation and go into reverse the camera actually works. As all of you know that are having this issue when in the condition the temp controls can not be read so you don't know what temp you are set on, the navigation does not work, the audio can't be changed except the volume, and none of the other features of the Sync screen are functional. Currently the screen goes into this condition on about 75% of starts making the vehicle non-functional in its current condition.

I'm considering suing Ford to have the vehicle bought back. I'm curious if anyone else has taken this course of action and the outcome?
What version is your SYNC software? There is a chance that's your issue if it's not the newest one.

Version 3.4 - I have it connected to my WiFi and just had it scan for updates. It indicates the current software is up to date.

There is a number after 3.4 The newest is 23188. If you show 22251 that is the one that has caused a lot of issues. You cna also go online at Ford.com to check for updates.

Thanks. I did figure that out by putting my VIN in the Ford updates que and saw that my 22251 had an update on the website. Downloading it to a USB now to do it manually.

Great. After you get it installed keep us posted if that helps. Good luck.

Keep getting an invalid file from the .ZIP download. tried it a couple of times and the same thing. Any chance you or someone else has the file they can email me?

Welcome to the Forum.
There is an issue at the Ford site regarding the update. It has been mentioned in another thread. You will have to wait until Ford can address the issue. Is your vehicle set to Auto Download? If so, the update could download via WiFi as long as the problem doesn't affect that. My update was done via WiFi.

I have if you PM me your email.

The vehicles that are or were sitting on the lots awaiting the recall to be resolved did indeed receive the fix first. In my opinion that was the proper thing to do as these were customer-ordered vehicles. My Aviator, ordered Oct. 31st, 2022 sat on the lot for several months. It was finally delivered to the dealership on Sept. 29, 2023. The software update they did for you was a 'temporary' fix. Not the permanent one which will remove the 'Recall' status from your vehicle. My Recall status disappeared after it was done at the factory and then it was shipped. Parts for on the road vehicles are in short supply, I believe, do to them also being installed on vehicles currently being built.

I haven't had any issues with the blue screen and haven't done any Sync updates since I got mine in April 22. Has anyone done the update and then had the problem pop up? Software updates are sometimes problematic in themselves. Look at what headaches happen after phone and Microsoft updates sometimes. 😕

The 22251 update caused a lot of issues. The 23188 update fixed them is all I know.

Cool. Thanks. I might just leave well enough alone for the time being. I'll definitely keep a bookmark on this thread.

Sound like you may need to update your software version to 23188. That fixes a lot of screen and Sync memory problems. The back up camera not working is the reason for the recall.

Doing the same with my 22. Zero issues, dealer won't see mine till there's something wrong or I'm trading it in. Only at 5k miles though.

Saw a story online Ford is recalling 462,000 Explorers, Corsair’s and Aviators due to back up camera failure. Mine actually did this last week, screen went blue, sensors quit working also, almost backed into a passing vehicle.
Check your SYNC Software version first! if it shows "Build22251" you need to update to 23188. You can download the ZXIP file from Ford by going to the updates page and putting in your VIN. Don't search for updates in the vehicle connected to WiFi, rather download the update onto a USB and manually update in the vehicle

Two things that will save you time. (1) If you're using Windows, unzip with 7ZIP program. Windows explorer and WinZip give an invalid file error. (2) Before you try to update the software from the USB, delete all bluetooth and Carplay devices. I learned the hard way and kept getting a INSTL_ERR12 until I deleted all devices, and then it updated correctly. So far problem solved.

Dale was correct that the 22251 software is garbage. You have to update to 23188.

I had multiple issues with the ZIp file and updating the vehicle. Listed below are the corrections I needed to make to get it updated. Hope this helps save some time and headaches for others.

Thanks for sharing those tips Brian. The more info here the better. 👍

I don't believe that the Sync version has anything to do with the camera issue. The only way to correct that is with a new camera and its associated software. There have also been posts recently that the Ford download of 23188 is not working. There is an issue with it that Ford is currently trying to resolve.
