Guys,
I saw a 3rd generation Explorer for sale yesterday at a local used car dealership. I'm wondering if it's priced right. It's a 2005 with 74K miles, 1 owner, no accidents, leather interior, moonroof, 4.6L V8 w/class III/IV hitch, 17" wheels. The body was in great shape, 1 noticeable scratch and a minor ding. Other than that, it looked and drove PERFECTLY. The tires seemed pretty new, pads/rotors ok, no clanking, creaking or other noises while driving. Transmission, shocks and brakes seemed ok. All lights working, turning, overdrive and everything else seemed ok. The dealer also gives a 30 day full warranty if anything goes wrong with it after purchase, and they do a full inspection before the sale. They will repair and/or replace anything. Only bizzare thing I noticed was condensation in the front right headlight. They also had to jumpstart it real quick to get it started. It's been sitting on the lot for 2 weeks they claim, but I'm not sure that would make the battery go dead. The battery itself was new. Weird...
Long story short, it was listed for $13,995. Got the saleperson to go down to $13,200 and then finally $12,995. All in total, shaved off only $1K off the original asking price. I thought it was worth about $10 - 12K.
Am I in the ballpark? Ideally, I'd only like to spend about $8K on a 3rd gen with a V8. What years should I target my search?
